Back Home

Honk...Honk..Honk..

I sat up straight. Fear, anger and irritation, all running through my head at the same time. I was on my way to my sister's PG from Bangalore airport. I looked ahead, the streets were empty but the bus driver honked. I guess, that was out of habit :)

Well that was my first reaction as I was arriving home. No, don't get me wrong. Don't count me among those Indians who cannot wait to crib about how everything is wrong in this country, but that was how I honestly felt. One year in the States can bring a few changes but more than anything your horizon of observations just widens!

One thing that was more than welcome was the presence of fellow beings :) I guess one can barely feel lonely here. The noise, the peak hour traffic, the roadside quarrels, the loud laughs; I loved it all.

By the way, I loved the year I spent in Milwaukee. It is a beautiful city and with a home in the downtown, it just adds to the pleasure :) Shopping got a whole new meaning there visiting almost every store in the malls and checking whose wardrobe gets bigger.

The nature kept playing its pranks: snow - you love it first, then you like it and later you hate it (unless of course if your office remains closed too :)). For the first time, I actually saw every phase distinctly - winter, autumn and spring.

I hated it initially when everyone you meet talks about weather first. I didn't see that coming, but I used the same topic to start my conversations :) Wishing a 'Good Morning' to anyone and everyone you see on the way to office, random conversations with random people, working like there's no tomorrow and weekends meant fun - new place to explore, new store (or the same store) to shop, time for friends and family.

I learnt a great deal - I could understand why something worked certain way and why some things just don't work. I recommend travelling to all!! It actually helps you broaden your thinking.

A lot more to say, a lot more to write, but maybe sometime later :) All in all, a great trip! I was happy there and am happy back home too - rejuvenated and refreshed to explore the next phase of the "Journey"!!
